No, I am not talking about marriage...I am talking about being committed to your self and bettering your health.

I have never been very active; in fact, laziness has always been a major weight-loss deterrent for me. Even when I got on a good streak (5 consecutive days), I would always fall off the exercise horse and not get back on it for months. Even having seen and experienced physical and energy benefits, I was never able to fully commit.

I was able to commit to other things, however...a good strong work ethic, my husband and my family. I started to examine why I was able to commit to these things and not myself and realized it all came down to mindset.

When it came to work, I got up and went despite wanting to. I would give 110% 9 out of 10 days; be organized, efficient and clean. I took pride in my work and always wanted to be a good representative of the company I worked for.

So I decided to re-train my brain on commitment. Instead of listing my usual motivators for exercising and eating healthy, I decided to tell myself, "Weight loss is my job; I need to do my job."

I told myself this multiple times a day...and it worked. It made waking up at 4 a.m. to get ready and get to the gym, workout and take care of my body so much easier to adjust to mentally and emotionally.

I was able to commit and perform consistently; even enjoy breaking a sweat and undoing years of abuse. I felt refreshed at the end of my workout and looked forward to getting back to the gym the next morning.

So I ask you...what areas of your life are you, or have you been able to commit yourself to? What is your thought process? What do you enjoy about those commitments? And how can you apply that frame of mind to getting healthy and losing weight? How can you commit to you?
