Simple Clove Mouthwash

A staple in your clean-living regimen should be cloves. Cloves are the dried flower buds of a coastal tree. They have also been referred to as: Birds Tongues and Grains of Paradise. They have so many wonderful, healing properties; they simply should not be over-looked. Some of the most well-known medicinal uses for cloves are:


 

Pain killer; when put on a piece of cotton and placed on a tooth, it can relieve tooth aches, gum pain and fight cavities; it is anti-inflammatory and can help relieve swelling, it is antiseptic, sniffing a piece of cloth wet with clove oil can help ease colds and allergies. The individual cloves act as cough suppressants and can also aid in reduction of throat swelling. Inhibits oxidation of LDL cholesterol, an early step in atherosclerosis. It can help relieve both motion and morning sickness if taken as a tea. Massaging clove oil on the head can help control headaches and rheumatism. It can help someone regain consciousness. If there is fever due to heat, and the quantity of urine has decreased, clove can stabilize the situation.


 

This mouthwash recipe has a three-fold purpose: 1) it will help fight cavities, 2) it will help fight the germs that cause bad breath and 3) it will help relieve cavity and/or gum related pain. When used along with oil-pulling, it has the potential to halt or perhaps even reverse cavities.

This mouthwash is a little spicy, so it may not be suitable for younger children.




1 Tablespoon loose cloves

1 cup of water


Place cloves in a canning jar. Pour boiling water over the cloves. Cover the container with a lid or plate, and leave the mixture to cool. Once cool, strain out the cloves and pour the clove-infused water into a clean container. Rinse mouth with 1 tablespoon per cleaning session. This mouthwash will keep approximately one week.
